broken bolt removal

RE: broken bolt removal
is it sticking out? i'm gonna assume no, since i would think you would have gotten it out by now it it were.
you can try using a center punch and drilling a hole in the bolt then using an "easy out" a.k.a. screw extractor to get it out. beware if that thing breaks off in the bolt your pretty much screwed.
you can also try drilling the bolt out completely, all the way until there are no threads left in the metal the bolt was screwed into. then use a helicoil kit to retap the hole and once the helicoil is inserted the hole will be back to the original size.
lastly you could just drill the thing out and tap it one size bigger and use a larger bolt if its possible for that particular bolt.

If it broke in the alternator you're pretty much screwed since steel is harder than aluminum, it won't cleanly extract as 77 has mentioned. Its extremel hard to get a drill centered in a broken bolt so be sure to give yourself room to screwup if you decide to drill it out. Good luck.

RE: broken bolt removal
A neat trick that I stumbled across when extracting a broken bolt. Centerpunch it, drill it as straight as possible and then hammer in a torx-head bit into the drilled hole. The torx-head gives a good bite and it doesn't expand the bolt like an easy-out does.
For what it's worth.
