Ok...I removed my 289 valve covers and painted them. The passenger side has a metal breather tube from the valve cover which runs down under the car and creates suction when the car is moving (open emissions system). I had a heck of time getting that tube off and back on. Since then the automatic transmission has been leaking like hell...maybe cup or so of fluid on the floor in a day. The transmission still works OK. The breather tube was attached in two places...one down low at the transmission and one up on the back of the block. The connection on the block also held the connector for the transmission dipstick, which swung free when I disconnected it. I have not crawled under to see when the dipstick tube connects to the transmission, but does anyone know if the transmission can leak from that connection? Maybe I broke a seal or grommet. I did have the front up on ramps for a couple of weeks while I was doing the project and I noticed the transmission wanted to drip a little more than usual with the front end up.
