doh!!!
well its about that time of year when everything is starting to get colder and the lows are getting into the teens and me being the genius that i am made a pretty big mistake. well this summer during hot august nights i had a little coolant leak at my thermostat housing and after each cruise (i did about 8 total) i would make sure to let her cool down and then i would top her off with some water since water cools better than antifreeze anyways. well its 3 months later and i completely forgot about that, until today. i get up in the morning and see a little puddle of antifreeze under my car, i look at it and try to see where it was coming from but i couldnt figure it out (remember, its about 17* at this point so i didnt inspect it too closely since i was freezing). i needed to get to work so i said eff it and started her up and took off. well im half way to work and i realize that my car is getting really hot and the heater still isnt warming up and think oh s***. i pull over and check things out...the water in the engine was boiling over into the radiator but no cool stuff was going back into the engine. i start to feel the radiator from the top to the bottom and low and behold it was nice and warm at the top but freezing cold at the bottom. it froze over because i didnt have a high enough antifreeze to water ratio. luckily it didnt do any damage to the block or radiator...i still cant believe i did that. lesson learned...

Yeah, you gotta be careful about that, freeze plugs don't always pop either, often times something else will fail. And it was down into the 20's last night here. And it hasn't even started to get cold yet.
