What Intake And Carb For My Cleveland?
Well I have a 1971 351 Cleveland in my 1967 mustang, right now its only 2 barrel and I want to convert it to a 4 barrel carb but when looking for intakes im not sure if my engine is a 2V or 4V? How could I tell?
Also what would be the best carb, intake combo for under $500?

If your engine is a stock 2V cleveland your best bet would be aHolley 600 and an Edelbrock Performer intake. To see what heads you have (2V or 4V) look on the top left or right corner of the head, either a 2 or 4 will be cast in there.

I'd run a performer intake and a performer 1406 carb or a road demon 625 carb if it has the stock cam, the demon will give the most power but the edelbrock will give the best drivabilty and economy, dont bother with a holley 600 unless you want to spend time changing jets and tuning, you have a 2bbl clev, which has large chambers, smaller ports and 205 160 valves so its a decent head flow wise except for the open chambers, but they run great even stock, I would invest in a good ignition system as well, you can convert to a duraspark dist using a BB ford 429-460 distrib and have it re-curved for performance.,add some 1 5/8 headers and a good 2 1/4 exhaust system, I had a 70 torino with a 2bbl clev, I sold it to a friend and we did a performer, 625 carter carb, headers and exhaust and it ran very strong and got 22 mpg's hwy with the auto and 280 rear gearsat 55-60. It took some tuning on the carter though, edelbrock is really good out of the box.
