Default Where to place jackstands on a 65

Kind of a basic question but I have to start somewhere. I've been working on my 65 coupe using ramps until now, but I need to remove the wheels. With a unibody car like this where would I support it with jackstands under the front and back, and where is a good place to lift it with a floor jack (front and back)to get the stands under it. I was planning on using the 4 ton Craftsman stands from Sears. Thanks

or you can use the frame rails but you should put a piece of wood between the jack and frame rails so it wont damage them.

If you are leaving the rear axle in, you can use it to hold the rear. If not, then use the "framerails".

place two under the rear if leaving it in and two as close to the front portion of the frame rails as possible as this is where they are reinforced not towards the back it'll warp the floor pan/push up on it[&:]

When I had my rearend still on the car I put a set under the differential and a set on the frame rails as far forward as I could. When I didn't have it in, I still had the set up front but just put the rear set on the rails aswell as far back as possible. You can use the rear diff. as a lift point, and I like to use the crossmember in the front as a front lift point.

With respect (and I mean that), I'm not nuts. If you are talking about safety, bumper jacks (for thetruly insane)and scissor jacks can slip. Hydraulic jacks can lose pressure. Jack stands can buckle (which I have seen once in my life 35 years ago)or their pins can shear. And yes, cars can roll off ramps.A good set of ramps with the brakes set and wheels blocked are as safe as any other method. The only really safe method is the old fashioned grease pit...and that won't get the wheels off the ground. Bottom line...if you get under a two or three thousand pound car you are taking a chance no matter how you do it. About four years ago a friend of mine died under his car when the hydraulic floor jack failed. He was 52 at the time and had been under cars since he was 15.

Rolling off the ramp isnt the problem its them breaking bumper jacks and scissor jacks are only good for paper weights.I havent seen a jack stand give out yet my old floor jack the ram blew out good thing it was only on a tranny not the car.
