Default Where to find oversize Rear Main Seal?

I just replaced the rear main seal in my 289. STILL LEAKS!!!!!! Where can I find an "oversize" seal, and how much oversize should it go? I did the replacement without pulling the transmission. Just removed the crossmember, dropped the pan, loosened the journals took the last onecompletely offand removed/replaced the old seal. I didn't realize I could get "oversize" seals, or I would have done that in the first place!!!!! THis is the 2 piece rubber seal with a steel core.

i dunno, but you can get a "seal saver" and knock that on. it will make your crank a little larger OD where the seal rides on.

btw, they are a pain in the @ss to get on [8D]

are you sure you didn't tear the upper part of the seal putting it in. that happened to me once replacing it that way.

felpro has a hipo rear main seal, part #2901, if i'm correct. I have thesame problem using stock seal. also, there might bea tiny bevel in topedge of the bottom mainbearing cap, which requires a tiny bead of gasket sealer.

Why they ever used a 2 piece seal in the first place is beyond me. How worn was the crank where the seal rides on it?

Those types of seals(rope) are used on a lot of large industrial stuff. But you expect engines and pumps and compressors that big to leak anyway.

Thanks for the interesting stories and moral support, but with this being such a prevalent problem, there MUST be an "oversize" two part rear seal made which has a slightly larger INNER DIAMETER to hug the crank OD at that point. If there's anyone who knows a source of such a part, PLEASE chime in. I only want to do this ONE MORE TIME.[]
