Default Electric choke question

I have an edelbrock carbee (cant recall the model number) and it has an electronic choke. A question with that; the (+) wire that we are supposed to connect to a 12 volt supply activated by an ignition switch (said so in the manual!)...i was taking apart my engine and noticed that it was connected to the "starter" point at the back of the alternator (stock motorlite). I was wondering if this is alright because i didnt notice anything wrong with it...just making sure if we can actually do that even though the manual says that ths 12V source should NOT be a coil or alternator,

My carbee is very similiar to this,
