Yeah it may be a little off. I know that before the first Desert storm in '91, gas was around $1.00, then it went to $1.50 gal. That is still cheap.

Would it be OK to throw a little 2 stroke oil, say 200:1, to put a thin oil film in the tankto prevent rust if you are going to lay it up for a while?

I had the same thing happen to me too, in my 70 coupe. Filled it up one day, the next day when I went to leave for school, no gas.[:@] It all leaked through a rusted hole in the tank.[:@] That was back in high school-1989, luckily gas was only $1.10/gal. The good ol days.
In1989 gas should have been about $.60 per gallon.. You must be running jet fuel
Yeah, it was still a dollar a gallon when I started driving 6 years ago! LOL!!!

The tank should just go. It's an easy fix and no matter the cost, it's always worth the piece of mind that you aren't sucking **** up into your engine.

Yep, I remember paying $0.989 in 1998, so I think your price is a little off.
Yea,, in 89 I was only 7 years old,, I dont quite remember the price of gas,, but I do know it was in the 80-90 cent range when I was in high school 96-2000

I think you are all dreaming. I was paying 1.45/gal in 1982, 83while I was in college. If you got it for .90/gal it was a very short stay in price

It didn't break a dollar out here until my senior year in HS, 2001/2002. From there, it went up. Fast.
