Default Rusted fuel tank?

Is there a decent way to check if the interior of your tank is rusted? Iam thinking about replacing mine, as far as i know its the orignal fuel tank. I just fear that it might be putting crap in my engine.

Replace it...it is not that expensive. Get a new sending unit too. All that = peace of mind.

May as well replace it. Especially if its original. You can find kits for around $100-$130, pretty reasonable and an easy task to do.

I would replace it. As was already said they don't cost that much, but if you have a good fuel filter you won't be putting crap in the engine even if the tank is rusted.

Just install a good inline fuel filter and run it a day or so.... Then check the filter.... They also have some clear fuel filters that have replacement fuel filters. I have one on my '83 Chevy K10..

I would just replace it. So you don't have a problem like I did. I was out of town for a long weekend. My neighbor called and said there was gas running down my driveway from under the garage door. The gas tank rusted through just a pin hole but 10-12 gallons later. What a mess we had and it took months for the gas smell to dissapate. I'm lucky the housedid not go up in flames.

I had the same thing happen to me too, in my 70 coupe. Filled it up one day, the next day when I went to leave for school, no gas.[:@] It all leaked through a rusted hole in the tank.[:@] That was back in high school-1989, luckily gas was only $1.10/gal. The good ol days.

In1989 gas should have been about $.60 per gallon.. You must be running jet fuel

The only really good way to check it is to remove it.
If the tank is rusted you can get it cleaned with caustic soda and plastic coated on the inside or just buy a new one one because it's cheaper than cleaning & coating.

Yep, I remember paying $0.989 in 1998, so I think your price is a little off.
