OIL LEAK

OIL LEAK
ITs like it never ends.. First I built the motor, got it running and my dampner seal was folded so, it was throwing oil everywhere,, So I changed it out,, now the thing is running great,, still needs carb tuned, but its leaking from where the timing cover meets the oil pan,, IS that the front main seal? Soo.. Its leaking, but not terribly,, but still,, its leaking. I think Im going to just run it the way it is for a bit until Im scheduled for the next oil change, and then drop the pan then for a new gasket install.. I tried to just tighten the pan to the block/timing cover, but that didnt do it..
If I were to let her cool, dry it up and then put a bead of RTV on the outside of the cover, do you think that might seal it up?
Oh,, and the exhaust install went great,, 2.5 flowmasters with an H pipe out of the back,, and it actually sounds like a car now instead of a beast plane flying down the highway..

RE: OIL LEAK
IMO its the main seal, but i like your idea of letting it run for awhile. When I dropped my pan, and replaced the gasket it leaked for 3 days after and then it stoped. Unfortunately old cars leak,if its not one leak its always another.

RE: OIL LEAK
The main seal is the one in the timing cover and seals the crank. The other is just the pan gasket.
You'll need to clean the area to see exactly where the oil is coming from. Likely, it's the corners where the rubber end piece and cork come together. Make sure to add a dab of silicone here to prevent leaks. It's possible that sealing the area with silicone on the outside of the pan will work.

Yea, I made sure to use the silicone when i installed it, I dont think its the crank seal thats leaking,, I really think its the pan gasket.. It sucks either way,, getting oil all over my freshly painted engine bay..

RE: OIL LEAK
Just because it's an old engine doesn't mean it has to leak:-| Could be a pinched gasket, overtorqued bolt, or just a spot that you missed with RTV. I think if you redo the pan gasket it'll be fine.
