Default oil slinger

well i had to replace my harmonic balancer the other day, it broke a big section out of it, on the part that slides onto the crank, got lucky and all it did was mess up the woodruff key, didn't even scratch the crank but it did ruin the oil slinger. i had to get the motor back together and the local parts didn't carry it so i put it back together without it, i know chevy doesn't have one. of course i put a new seal in the timing cover so im wondering if im going to end up with a major oil leak in a short or im i worrying about nothing. by the way im running a true roller timing chain setup. and i have to add when i did the timing chain set the gasket set came with the bushing that slides over the balancer, i think that was what saved the balancer from completely destroying itself, i mean the chenk that broke was about 1 inch by 2 inch and the piece was still there.

Default RE: oil slinger

No, you don't need that oil slinger with a double-roller chain. Most of those chains come with instructions that specifically say you don't need one. Mine did
