Default To start or not to start....

'65 Coupe. The guy I bought the car from said it had no keys. The guy he bought it from didn't have the keys either, so who knows if this car will run or not. I contacted a locksmith and they'll be here in one hour to make a key from scratch. I'm itching to see if this 6 cylinder will crank or not.

So as much as I'm itching to rotating that key....should I? Of course I'll check to make sure oil is in there, etc...but want to make sure I am not doing the WRONG thing. I guess it's the only way to know what I'm working with right?

God speed.

does the engine turn over by hand or a socket on the crank? You can jump the solinoid pretty easy too just to see if the starter will engage and turn over.

If it's a 6 you should be able to turn the motor by hand just by grabbing the big pulley and spining it really hard. If you can't do it by hand, grab a breaker bar and 3/4" socket (IIRC) and yank it slowly see if it spins.

Definately check the oil and all that jazz.

As far as your key sichatation, I HIGHLY recommend ordering a new set of cylinders all around and replacing every clyinder on the car. You never know when someone is gonna be a douche and keep the keys and "steal" the car back.

GL!

pull the plugs b4 you crank it this will make it turn over easier as there will be no compression spin it a couple time to get the oil through the engine and gas in the carb then have at it good luck !!

You'd be surprised. I raced a brand new altima with mine and considering how old that stang was and the advances in technology, I managed to stay slightly ahead of him. Moderate tuning/rebuilding and those I6's are nuts. Plus Fords inline motors are indestructable. Besides, dropping in a V8 isn't a simple swap. you have to for the most part replace half the car to do so. Suspension, spindles, rear end, the list goes on. It's cool if you have the money and the time, but not *always* worth the trouble in the long run.

"he had the title I hope"????

I hope for your sake he did or you're in big trouble! LOL!!!
