Exhaust Causing Driveway Stains

RE: Exhaust Causing Driveway Stains
You'll get some soot (the black stuff) build up in your exhaust naturally. Modern lean-burn cars even get some soot buildup. The condensation dissolves this good stuff and sprays it all over the place. Carb'd cars will build up soot faster, but that's just because you want to run the carb a little on the rich side just to protect the engine over a wider range of operating temperatures (it's better on the engine to run a little rich than a little lean).

My 289 does the same thing, it just started a few days ago right after the car backfired. I think it might be carbon from the backfire. also it backfired after flooding. is this normal?
