Default To change the pan gasket in car?

So whats the best way to do it? Drop the cross member and then the pan, or am I going to have to dismantle the steering linkage too? 351w in a 69 ... stock pan.. And yes I will go with the one piece blue fel pro gasket

I think you can do it without dismantleing all that stuff. I'm not sure havn't had to do it. But i think if you can get the pan unbolted you can slide it out away from the cross member and linkage

I did our '65 302 and had to pull the crossmember AND sterring linkage to get the pan off.....made it real easy to put it back on and torque.

Remove the crossmember and unbolt the idler arm from the passenger side (I assume the '69 is similar to the '65) and then remove and replace. BTW, isn't this a new engine? Spill it!

Yep,, it was a long block build and when I first put it together I folded the timing cover crank seal and had to replace it.. So when I replaced it I somehow screwed up the pan gasket, since you have to trim the old one out and replace with the3 new peices,, so thats leaking now.. Im going to get the 1 piece when I replace it..

Remove the crossmember and unbolt the idler arm from the passenger side (I assume the '69 is similar to the '65) and then remove and replace. BTW, isn't this a new engine? Spill it!

Will that allow me to swing the linkage out of the way?

Unbolting the idler arm from the framerail will allow the steering to drop quite a bit. If it is not enough, you'll have to remove the draglink from the pitman arm, but do that as a last resort.

Good luck!
