Instrument Lights Don't Work?

Instrument Lights Don't Work?
Hi everyone!
First post here
My instrument lights don't work. They come on once in a blue moon however.
I thought my switch was bad so I replaced the switch. No luck.
I grabbed the harness which plugs into the side of the switch and "hot wired" the headlights. Headlights come on.
I "hot wired" the instrument lights (so I think) and no luck.
Has anyone else had this problem? I doubt any of the wires are faulty. Are there any other connections (ex: fuse box) I should be looking at?
To my understanding the instrument lights should be the red and blue wire.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Angelina

RE: Instrument Lights Don't Work?
if memory serve's me right there should be a ground wire attached to the back of the cluster, thats a pretyy good place to start since the odds on all the wires for the lights probably wouldn't be bad at the same time

Their is a 2.5 amp use, its thelittle one in the use panel. It could need replaced or removed and clean the prongs. I just had to fix mine, it was corroded. Also sometimes the rivits that make the connection will loose contact. If you wiggle the connection, it may briefly word. At least if its there, you will know what to fix. Otherwise as"az" stated, look for a bad ground.

I had a problem with mine where the back of the instrument panel (print circuit) touching metal. I Taped the edges and it was okay. Easy check is leave them plug in but not mounted and see if they work. Could be circuit board too.

I tried turning them on with the cluster panel removed...no luck.
I will play with the grounds and circuit boards to see if I have any luck!
Next, I need to order a whole new replacement instrument cluster. I am debating between going with an AutoMeter set up or something like Digital Dakota. Too many things...so little time
