Tightening flex plate

Tightening flex plate
If I have this right, I need to put my converter on the transmission, and bolt the flywheel to the crank. After doing this, I should slide the trans assembly onto the engine. Then, I bolt the transmission to the flexplate.
Now my question is, to bolt those things on, 2 things are going to happen. When bolting the flexplate on, the crank will want to turn (due to the moment). Can I put a socket on the crank pulley up front, and have someone hold that?
Second thing that will happen is, I need to turn the flexplate to get all of the bolts (4 of them) tightened down. The engine should be fine while I turn the crank, right?
Thanks again guys, I'll put up some pics later on of all this madness going together

RE: Tightening flex plate
sounds like you've got it.
make sure the torque converter is all the way onto the input shaft before putting it up to the engine.
You are ok having somebody hold the crank while you tighten the bolts.
when you need to rotate the assy you can either use a screwdriver/ prybar, socket. or something to rotate at the flexplate (ring gear) or just rotate the crank.
just remember to use the correct bolts (lenght) entering the torque converter. and to use the proper torque.

Yep,, I rotated the crank from the front and had someone hold the breaker bar.. Get them all on tightfirst and then torque them down.. Remember to get it to 70-90ft lbs when torquing those nuts down.. And I reccomend picking up a set of newnuts so that your not using the old stripped nasty ones.. its only about $7 and worth every penny..
