I have a 650 on my 302. It is probably a little big for even a 302. Definitely too big for a 289.

I am 95% sure manual....I can't see the entire right side of the carb, but I think I would see the elec choke if it was there. The electric choke on an Edelbrock resembles a small black cylinder abour 2" in diameter and 3/4 of an inch deep. It would be on the passenger side of the carb toward the front.

If you have a manual choke, you can buy a kit to convert to electric. I remember that they had a conversion kit on the shelf at Pep Boys for about $70.00. They probably have the kits in stock at similar parts stores as well.. In my experience, the elec chokes on the Edelbrock carbs works well.

a .030 289 is not 310, a .030 302 is only 306.

mathmatic equasions dont really work out exactly for carbs, expecially when using a dual plane intake. just TRUST me when i say you want a 570 to a 600 (even a 625 is ok if you have a "built" motor) - but for driving around 650 is just getting too damn fat.
true for 0.030 bored over. sorry.
i was calculating 0.30 bored over. had that wrong
0.030 is 291ci

and yes. i'm the mathematician, and my77stang is the one with experience. trust him so. I never knew that dual plane carbs make so much of a difference.
but it seems to make sense as everyone selling you a carb for a 289V8 will give you a 600cfm.
