my passenger door lock is broken, i can't open it
Hey everyone, i have a 1967 mustang 289 with a c4 tranny. I purchased the car from my cousins step-dad, and when he owned it somebody tried to break into the car by breaking the passenger door lock. I dont know that much about locks but my friend said they broke the lock cylinder and the only way to unlock it is by taking off the door panel. Is there any other way?...is it easy to pop the lock using something like an unbent coat hanger or something and sliding it down between the window and door?

The only way i can think of is what your friend said. I had my door lock pop out and i had to go in and put the holder back on. If you do take off the panels make sure you dont rip the cardboard. I did when i was getting all the spring locks out. Got a little rip. Its not that hard. Shouldn't take you maybe 2 minutes. Taking the lock out is a different story, it doesn't look reasy to get off.

I have to assume the interior lock rod is either not functioning or the lock cylinder is jammed up enough that the interior lock rod won't allow it to unlock? If you have access to a slim-jim or similar lock tool you MIGHT get lucky enough to unlock it without removing the door panel but removing the panel isn't really that big of a deal. That way you'll have access to the entire latch assembly through the inside of the door.

yes the lock cylinder is actually broken...so my door is locked shut and the lock is useless i can't unlock it. Once i can get it unlocked it can open fine but im not sure how to do it

cool. when you're lucky and it's not all broken off, then there should be a wire coming from the door lock to where the cylinder was.
You might be lucky and it's still attached to the lock. if it is go fishing for it with a coathanger. when you have it push down (or up?). try both with a long set of plyers

i got the door to open...it was so much easier than i was making it out to be. all i had to do was i grabbed the lock cylinder and pulled it straight up and the door unlocked...it's about time haha.
