Default What causes sloppy handling??

My car has very sloppy handling and you have to really pay attention at 70 mph+. i was wanting to freshen everything up with a nice aftermarket setup but dont know where to begin.

i thought about one of these grab-a-track kits and that will lower it about an 1inch which would help at higher speeds as well.

Most bad handling is caused by mechanical looseness.. bushings, ball joints, steering box, etc.

sloppy handling is the result of non performance alignment, worn joints, soft springs, and a worn gear box. The four things add to each other making it worse. I would start with new springs/shocks and new steering linkage. Also check the LCA and UCA bushings. Once those parts have been replaced have it aligned, but DO NOT use Fords specs. Print pout the following and take it in to the alignment shop.

Please align to these specs “1960-1966 Mustang and Falcon Performance Alignmentâ€.

These specifications are in order of importance.

1. NO more than .25 degrees difference between driver’s side and passenger’s side.

2. +2.0 to +3.5 degrees caster.
NOTE: for cars with Adjustable strut rods. Please attain as much caster as possible using the shims (at least 1.5 to 2.0 degrees), and then use the adjustable strut rods to increase the caster and make the sides the same. Also, please note that the caster difference between the driver’s side and passenger’s side needs to have no more .25 degrees difference prior to the adjustment of the strut rods.

3. -.5 to 0 degrees camber. No positive camber, please. There is no problem having a slight variation from driver’s side to passenger’s side to account for the crown in the road.

4. 1/16" to 1/8†toe in

If you run into any problems attaining these specs, please call me (your phone number here).

Have another odd ball story for you guys years ago in my early 20'2 my uncle bought a AMX Hornet 390. Picked it up for I think $700
I loved that car but it would go all over the road and puled hard to the right. After a trip to the shop they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
After a bout a month he had a new set of tires put on turned out the right front tire was a bigger size than the other 3.
wasnt enough to see it unless you were looking for it. That was it.
