Default Optima Battery Solutions for a '65

Hey guys,
Well I went to go start my car today to let it run a bit, and it wouldn't turn over. Anyhow, long story short, it's time for a new battery and was thinking I would take the Optima route this time around. What are some of the solutions/mounting kits available for a that batter on a '65 FB? I would like to keep it near the current stock location.
Ran across this kit, but was wondering if anyone had anymore trick setups they could suggest.
Optima Mounting Kit - $107

Thanks in advance!

1) Turn it sideways and mount any battery you like... http://www.midnightdsigns.com/Mustan...r_install.html

2) Mount it in the trunk... http://www.midnightdsigns.com/Mustang/Battery.htm

optima batteries are great...however if you are running the factory stock alt that doesn't put out more than 45 amps..at usually less than optimal voltage at around 13.6 to 13.8 which is what is required to charge a conventional battery to full capacity...however batteries like optimas which are of the maintenence free type have a low self discharge rate and due to increased internal resistance due to battery type construction these batteries generally need to be charged a t voltage of 14.4 to 14.7 which a stock old 60's mustang never will be able to do such and eventually you'll end up with a dead battery!! I've had a few old cars come in with the maitenence free type of battery and charging issues......anyway with the optima battery I'd reccommend a alt upgrade to one that has a capability to charge at a higher voltage and amperage rate....I went with a powermaster single wire 100 amp deal...that's to say if you haven't already upgraded the alt

While all that may be true...I have a red top in my 67 with a 45A alternator and it works fantastic. No problems in 3 years.

107$ seems like a rip off for something that would be so easy to make. I took my existing bettery tray andd turned it sideway, and bought one of those rubber cables to hold down the battery for bout $10

oh I agree you can do it but we had a guy that used his as a daily driver and wondered why he had starting problems in the cold after a while...it's been a while so I don't remember all the details but all I remember is his alt was fine and there were a few other circumstances and issues he was having...but it all lead back to his everyday uses, conditions and battery choice..but a upgraded alt solved the whole problem ..everytime the battery was tested it only had like a 55% to 65% charge if I remember right

Interesting.Might explaina lot of the "dead" Optimas we took back at Sears for warranty that we resurrected after a night's charge. That's how I got my Red Top
