Rough idle on 66 coupe

RE: Rough idle on 66 coupe
I wanted to post an update and get some more info. Since I last posted I have done a few things to the car and discovered a few more issues. My heat problem was due to the the temp cable being off the rod behind the glove box insert. After I got that back on my heat is working perfectly now. Feels good to be warm! Anyway, I got the timing and idle adjusted on the car and it helped the rough idle tremendously (no longer have to put it in neutral at stop lights) but the rough idle is still present. I am considering buying some new motor mounts just in case the rubber has hardened. Visually they look OK but I am willing to try anything to help. How hard is it to change on the transmission mount/insulator? Should I do this too? Or does it involve dropping the tranny, in which case I am not so sure I want to get into that. However, I could use some new seals. Also, I changed out the thermostat (didn't seem to be a problem but I did that before I found the unhooked cable). I also put on a new fan belt. The old one was dry and I had some noise. One bad thing is I noticed my front floorboards were damp after a recent rain. Has anyone tried the magnetic or lexan cowl covers? Any opinions? And I have damp carpet on the driver side rear passenger foot area. I noticed there no windlace along the inner door/interior trim in that area. Could that be the culprit?
Thanks for your help!

RE: Rough idle on 66 coupe
Well, my idle was pretty fast. I think someone set it faster to try to compensate for the roughness. I had a pretty strong gas smell I guess from where it wasnt burning off the fumes. So I was able to slow it down and it actually helped the rough idle but it is still there. Smell seems to bebetter now t oo.I don't think its the carb-- at least I hope not. I'll let you know what happens though!
