Default Where to start?

I'm in the process of acquiring my first mustang. I've always been a huge ford fan and I have a 4x4 ford and an excursion. I've also got an old rat rod project that I"ll probably never get done. I've always wanted a classic mustang and if I get rid of the truck I'm gonna pick it up. I want a fastback or a coupe 73 or older that I can get a stroked 460 into (if the hood don't fit I'll figure something out). I've got two 460's I'm working on and I'd like one of them to go into a stang.

Is this possible, the big block in a mustang?
How much should I pay for a old car like that? I can pretty much do everything but weld myself (I'm practicing that) so a real fixer upper is not a problem. But how much for one that will make it around a block on its own?
What car would fit these needs the best? Easiest to work on find sheet metal for and easiest to find odd little parts for?

Thanks

Starfighter

71-73 came with big blocks. It's not uncommon to see a 460 dropped in one of these. Check ebay to get a sense of the going conditions/prices.

I recomend starting in the desert.... find a Mustang with little rust, and you will be way ahead right off the bat.... avoid the pre 67 cars for the 460.

I would first find a car from somewhere like Arizona or a desert state to keep rust at a minimum and go with a 68 or up.Early 70s would probably be a good choice as I have seen quite a few 71/72s with 460s in them.Good luck and shoot us a few pics when you get 1.
