Default Front Spring Woes

A couple months ago, I started a thread concerning the stance of my '67 Coupe. I was told the front end is too high.

Last weekend, I removed the springs and cut one round from the coils. That turned out to be too much. The tires rubbed the fender whenever I turned a corner or drove over a dip in the road. 1/2 to 2/3 would have been perfect..... live and learn.

I ordered a kit from Mustangs Unlimited that included:
COIL SPRINGS 67/73 1" DROP 620 LB/IN
COIL SPRING MOUNTING SEAT W/ RUBBER BUSHING 65/73
URETHANE COIL SPRING INSULATORS PAIR 65/73

The new springs are shorter than the old ones, even after I cut them!!

However, they are thicker, so I thought maybe they will be stiffer, thus making up for the fact they are shorter.

When installed, the new spring is so short, it doesn't sit all the way down into the seat (the inner portion is seated, but the outer portion isn't touching its seat at all).

Here's the original spring on the other side of the car:

Ijacked up the wheel assembly.

The spring seated where itwas supposed to.

This can't possibly be right, can it?

it is correct. those springs are so much stiffer that they sag less so once the car is on them the ride height should be correct. Be warrend you ride is about to get WAY stiffer, I had a set and traded them out for new GT type springs with 1/4" coil cut off.

I also noticed your spring perch is new. It's probably pretty stiff and hence, not rotating up to meet the spring. I'm a little surprised Daze didn't say anything about it because he can make up a nice set of roller spring perches, which allows the perch to stay in constant contact with the spring and allow the spring to do its job, rather than adding the stiffness of the perch to the whole equation.

I really appreciate the mention of my perches. I would have said something, but I try to not push my product to much on the forums. I am here to help and I don't want people to think I here just to make a buck. By all means mention my product as much as you like. THANKS!!!

WAY stiffer is not the result I'm looking for. Bummer.

What is the ft/lb rate of the stock spring?

Because my car sat so high in the front, I thought I might have big-block springs. Is there any way for me to find out if these are big-block or small-block springs?

you can always order1/2"- 1" insulators to bring it back up, roller spring perches really make a difference too. I'm running 620's with a whole coil cut, GW UCA's, roller perches and koni shocks on 1/2 stiff on my 67 vert and mine rides real nice not harsh at all.

I originally cut 2/3 a coil but with the new UCA's and perches I had to cut more about 12" free height on the spring

I have the original 40 year old "289" springs with a 1/4 of a coil cut off and the 1" Shelby drop (also a heavy 429) and here is my stance...
It's low but so far no real issues.

I installed the other spring last night. My car went from this:

To this:

I actually like the way it feels with the new springs. Not as rough a ride as I was fearing. The car doesn't "float" over dips in the road anymore.

I'd still like to get the rear end up a little higher. I've already installed new "stock" leaf springs. I don't want to change the shackles or install air shocks. I may have the leaf springs re-arched. Any other ideas?
