okay, ill check the points and take pics of the carb, and let you guys know how that works out. does anyone know why the carb blows out that puff of gas (in the video)?
Backfire through the carb is usually a lean condition. Backfire out the exhaust is too rich.

Lean backfire: With the engine cold could absolutely be just the choke. Have someone hold the choke plate almost completely closed and start the car. If it is closed too far, it will run rich, but other than that it should run OK if this is the problem. Then either hook up the automatic choke and adjust it, or put a manual choke on cable in. I would definately do this before I tore that carb apart.

Mine has trouble starting in the morning or if I haven’t started it in a few days. I have a 750 dp 4v with no electronic choke. So I usually have to pop the hood, open up the choke to full then mash on the gas and it will crank up pretty easily, if I do it any other way it will crank for ever but will not start. I run it for a few minutes. If I am in a hurry (like every morning before I do physical fitness) then I just flood it and crank then just clutch drive it keeping high enough rpm so that it doesn’t stall until it reaches operating temperature (like 200 something as previously stated above).

The choke just increases the fuel to air ratio by closing off the air side of things. If you try to start it with your foot flat on the gas pedal it will have the same effect.

Looking at the vid, I would start with the carb. Give it a good bench clean out and adjustment.
Seems like you are handy with the video camera, so you could use that skill, and record your
disassembly of the carb, and when it comes time to put it back together - watch the video!
Make sure you have spare gaskets or an overhaul kit. I use brake cleaner on jets and the carb
inside and lots of compressed air to clean.

I did have a similar problem with my 390. But it turned out to be the rocker adjustment. I though it
had a hydraulic setup, but someone had installed solid lifters/camat some stage. Once I realised
this and adjusted properly, the car ran like a dream ( rambling yes....nothing to do with your problem... )
