Default So here it is...13 months later....

I've spent the last 13 months intimately close to this car. I've done everything myself, (I mean everything, even the paint),and now I am at the point where I'll need help...putting it back together! I bought the car stripped...so I have no notes, sketches, etc. I have some really good books, and have referenced them alot up to this point. I know the wiring needs to go first, and it's the part I'm dreading...so knowing that, should I start there? Or should I install the heater box, steering column, wiper assembly first? I appreciate any advice...

I am not one to offer advice, but you must have access to one heck of a shop! Do you have prior painting experience? If not, how was the experience? It looks fantastic. I have contemplated painting my Mustang by myself and have read all I can on the subject. Is it something that can honestly be tackled by a first timer, including clear coating?

Again - I wish you and your son all the best on putting humpty back together again. It'll be a fine ride.

I am a welder by trade...working at a power plant. I would drag her in on weekends and do what I could complete in a day or two, because come Monday morning, it had to be back outside under a cover.. I did work out a trade with a neighbor, who has a swamp buggy (and owns a small paint and body shop) to use his booth for some fab work on his toy. The toughest part of the paint was the prep. I spent 7 weeks prepping the car whenI thoughtI had it pretty close. My friend did work with me a little to get me started. I bugged the crap out of him! As far as the physical painting? It wasn't that tough...getting all the ratios right, and thinking through the whole job was the toughest...alot of masking and paper! I could never have done it without the use of his shop, or his guidance.

I installed front torqueboxes, and made my own subframe connectors. Also adding a 9" rear and a few motor goodies...I just need to get through the next "stage"!

Wiring is a piece of cake compared to painting and body work. Don't be intimidated because it's unfamiliar. You'll find it's quite common sense.

Yes, install the steering column, heater box, and wiper mechanisms first. It'll just be easier. Get a copy of the Jim Osborne Wiring Manual. http://cgi.ebay.com/1966-Ford-Mustan...QQcmdZViewItem

It shows how the harnesses are layed out in the car. They are in sections. Underdash, underhood, headlights, taillights, etc.

The cowl was bad, so I needed to replace the lower half...at the time only 67-68 pans were available, so i had to "make it work". Only difference is the way the wiper motor attaches. I cut off the 65 bracket and welded it on to the 67-68. Worked out perfect.

Thanks James...I need the encouragement. I have the Osborne book you mentioned. It's GREAT! I did the tailight harness last night.... and unpacked the main harness...then put it back in the box and popped a Budlight....

Get the reproductions of the original interior, body, etc. manuals. They give great sketches and really help you figure out how to assemble items you are unfamiliar with, including how to adjust the roll-up windows.

Looks good!
