RE: 400 hp what to upgrade
Ok, I got my heart set on building this car to be a mid to low 7 second car in the 1/8th mile track. What are a good set of aluminum heads for $1,500 or less? After I get heads i'm going to need a good cam. I want a pretty lumpy idle but maybe not too rediculous. I have been looking at summit some trickflow heads for about 1500 bucks look good.
I might be able to have my tranny rebuilt by my best friends brother in law, he owns a tranny shop.
I got the rear end, me and my dad can do that fabricating. Can I use the explorer rear end?
Engine wise, i'm going to to up and talk to the builder to see whats it going to cost and what I need to get or if he'll order the stuff.
But yea what are good heads, and about he rear end, will it work?

patriot has some kickass heads for less than 900 bucks, but if you really wanna spend more a set of AFR's will outperform the trickflows, and canfields or RHS are worth looking at too. honestly, i would grab the proforms if it were me. there are a few guys that have jumped on em in the 5.0 section and all have had good results.
the trans, i HIGHLY recommend you order parts yourself and WATCH THE GUY BUILD YOUR TRANS. i cant tell you how many times i have heard people not using the right parts and screwing people over - getting a deal from your 3rd cousins brothers ex-mother doesnt mean anything, cept for you'll feel worse about getting the shaft.
i believe the rear will work, its probably not too much wider than yours but you'll have to measure and im sure you'll have to cut off and reweld the spring perches

if you are going to get aluminum heads, look at CHI and their intakes too.... amazing product.
If AFD had a intake that they made for a 302 id tell you to look at them to.
Canted valve small blocks FTW

CHI is certainly FTMFW but they are not cheap...... proforms are junk heads, patriots are not proforms and are the way to go (best bang for the buck)
