BF Goodrich radial t/a's or Cooper Cobra's work very well...

I actually had the Firehawk's on my old 69 LeMans and wasn't a big fan of them either. They look good but I remember one time I was driving after it had just rained and didn't hit it hard but pulled out and fishtailed all over the place. Not something I liked... No one's used those Toyo tires?

Those firestones put a little bit more rubber on the ground accounting for the slightly better dry traction, but just like the Radial T/A's, they're an OLD design. Don't expect much more out of them performance wise, and I'd expect even less in quality control. BFG at least has Michelin QA standards (Michelin owns BFG), Bridgestone/Firestone QA isn't near as good.

Those Toyos aren't horrible tires, and they'll definitely be better in the rain than the Radial T/A's, Cooper Cobras, and Firehawks, but I wouldn't expect much from them cornering-wise. Plus, they just look funky on a muscle car.

For the price I'd still much rather try tofind a set of BFG G-Force Sport tires that will fit. They're cheap enough, they perform very well, and they look better than a Japanese tire will on a muscle car.

205/60/15's should definitley fit any application with plenty of room. There are many combo's to choose from and I'm sure just as many opinions. IMHO, old tech tires are fine, definitely cheaper, you just gotta know your limitations. My DD survived many yrs of commuting to work on them.

I went with BFG Radial T/A's. 235/60/15 to fill up the wheel wells when I swapped to 15inch Magnums last fall. Not much, if any, clearance left. I have the GT/shelby drop(moved A arm)to my front end and the back is also lowered by about 1 & 1/2 inches. You'll have to do a trial and error approach because each mustangs stance/set upis a bit different. Previously had Eagle ST's; 205's and 225's(both looked too small) but they are not made anymore anyway.

^ Did you have those 235's on a 7" wide Magnum? Im not sure the limit of what will fit on a 7", so just curious? Also, standard 4.25" backspacing or something different?

Yeah, they are on 15x7's from Wheel Vintiques. Standard backspacing, I think, since I didn't specify otherwise when ordering. Haven't had any rubbing issues in the year since I put them on, but I definitely would go any bigger.Front disc conversion from SSBC back in '99 when I had 14" rims, A-arm relocated to drop the front about 2" with 351 rated springs cut down a little.

I'veread in MMof guys putting 245's on the rear of 69's and 235's on the front(can't remember the rim size). Looks good in pics, but then you can't rotate. The 245's may be a bit big for the 7" rims since the NTB guys talked me out of that option.

In the same class as the Radial T/A's, Cooper Cobras, and Firestone Firehawks. Better tread design than the Radial T/A's (especially in wet weather), but since they're Goodyear/Dunlop tires, quality control may be an issue there as well.

So I'm upgrading my rims and will need new tires. I have an I6 car that has 14" rims now and
I'll need 15" for the disc brake swap. My question is what tires should I use. I went to
tirerack.com and looked at some opinions there but even if they have a good rating there are
always plenty of people saying they are also not good. I want a good all season tire, 55,000 or
60,000 mile tire, 15 rim. I asked a guy at the local tire shop but he wasn't very helpful. he
suggested 205-55-15 or a 225-55-16 with his suggestion being the 16" tire. I plan on using
this just for cruising and driving a lot in the good months spring, summer and fall. Don't need
anything fancy and don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
You might want to investigate 225/50-15's on 15 x 7's, I think you'll find a fewmore candidates.

I will strongly urge you to consider traction first. Particularly in older tire lines, extendedtread life
comes at a sacrifice in grip. Even Consumer Reports is now recommending that everything else
(treadwear, noise, ride) be taken secondary to the measured performance.

I do have a little experience with BFG g-Force Sports. Basicallythey grip well either in a
straight lineor in a turn. But don't ask them to do much of both together. IOW, autocross or
open-tracking tires they are not. But they are entirely streetable for at least three seasons.
