Default 4 lug or 5 lug for my '65

Hello. I am restoring my '65 Coupe and am starting with the chasis. I have a rebuilt 200 c.u. and a 3 speed manual tranny. I am looking for some advice or suggestions on whether to change the spindles out and make it a 5 lug instead of a 4 lug. Also, the decision on whether to add disc brakes. The front suspension needs a total rebuild. I would like to make these updgrades but really didn't want to spend the extra money doing it right now because the car needs so much other work (interior and paint). Is it worth the extra cost?

If you're going to make a v8 swap eventually then yeah, you'll want the 5-lugs

I don't plan on swapping for a V8 anytime soon. I just rebuilt the 6 and it is going to my 17 year old son.

youll have to have a v8 rear honestly id suggest an upgrade to disc brakes check out ssbc brakes i got a nice kit from them and they make one for the 4lug cars also i imagine it would be cheaper to pick it up from from jegs or summit i got mine from jegs about 500$ cheaper than any of the mustnag parts house they price matched the www.paddockparts.com

the only other resson to change to 5 lug would be more wheel choices. 4 lug is very limited. Also you will find the dic brake kits for the 4 lug are about $200 more than the 5 lug.

You can get front disc for the 4 lug it is pricey to do but to me its worth theres alot of rims for the 5 lug not alot for the 4.

If you're planning on rebuilding the front steering/suspension anyway, I'd recommend going with the Granada swap from www.discbrakeswap.com. That'll put you in front discs for around $550. For the rear end, you should be able to hunt around and find a 65-66 8" 5 lug rear end. After that it's wheels & tires. Brakes, suspension, and steering... should run you around $12-$1500. Tack on wheels/tires and you're over 2K. The good thing about this tho is that once this is done, it will be an extremely save, reliable, and good driving car.

Put the extra $200 you would have paid for the 4 lug discs into an 8" rearend and you're golden. Also if your front suspension is worn out, replace with v8 stuff, except for the springs. If you ever do decide to swap to a v8, almost everything is done.
