Default intake and cam 95 5.0 carb engine

I'm building a carbureted 95 5.0 engine for a 66 FB. I want more power than my stock 302 in my coupe, but want something that will still be a driver. I know the HO motor has more HP than that, but can I use a bigger cam and different intake w/stock heads and still have a motor that will idle. I have a Ford cast 4bbl intake, are the aluminum intakes that much better? I am using a Holly 600cfm. I am running aT5 trans w/ 3.50 9" rearend. Any thoughts?

if its a 95 it should be an HO motor..... ditch the cast iron intake and grab a weiand model 8124, use your holley 600, and slap some 1.7 ratio roller rockers on there (crane makes a direct bolt on 1.7 rocker, same as the rockers used by ford on the 93 cobras) that will put your cam in the .472 range and you'll be streetable and safe with your stock springs. add some decent longtube headers and a quality dual exhaust system and you'll be a happy camper.

You mentioned stock suspension- I am putting the MII adjustable coil over. Do away with the stock headers? Is the weiand intake better than eldebrock performer?

never really heard about weiand intake manifolds.
so i checked for them and after a little browsing I found this one:

that's very funny .. Brand "E" P/N 1212

Weiand makes good intakes. I'm using the 8124 on mine and it works very well. Best performance/drivability without going for f/i or juice, would be heads/cam/intake combo.

that dyno comparison is exactly why i recommended the weiand, its a new design (their "other" action plus intake isnt nearly as good)

Get a cam that is more suitable for a carb.
Junk the Holley and get an EDL carb.

I called Compcam, the tech recommended a #35-514-8. He spit out a bunch of numbers which meant nothing to me so I don't know? I ordered the weiand intake, but was going to keep the stock cam. Bad idea? As for the EDL carb, tried one on my coupe, went back to aHolley. I was also going to get the Pertronix under cap ignition. Anyone tried one?

everyone raves about the petronix, and yeah you would really benefit from a cam or some 1.7 roller rockers.
