What size gear would i need to pu in the tranny for the speedometer? I have a 67 200CI with 3-speed. The speedo hasnt been working right for the last 3 days. And it is time to replace it.

Was it working properly before that? If so, it's likely the cable as broke. You don't need to change the speedo gear unless you've changed either tire size or the rear ratio. Then, you need to provide a gear ratio that will give the speedometer 1,000 rpm at 60 MPH.

It will work and then it just goes nuts. I will start out fine and then the speedo will max itself out. Then a day or 2 later it will work again. I know the cable isnt broken. I was told before it was the gear in the tranny. I just need to know how many teeth are on the gear so i can order a new 1.

You might want to check the speedo cable for lubricant. Yes they need to be greased (been there, had that happen). Disconnect it from the speedometer, pull it out, grease the snot out of it and then reinsert it in the cable housing. You can also remove the cable housing connector at the transmission to make sure you get the cable all the way in. Then hook it back up to the speedometer and give it a try. BTW, while your under the car disconnecting the cable housing you can pull the speedo gear and count the number of teeth on it
