Redline???

Redline???
I just installed a tach on my 66. Its just a cheap atermarket thing, but it looks and works very good. I was wondering what a safe redline is for the tach to be "set at". After listening to the engine and comparing it to the tach, I had never revved it past 4000 when it was in park/neutral, and I have no idea where it shifts. Would it be best to take it for a drive once its warm and just floor it and see where it shifts?

Awesome, thanks. Ill prolly set it to 5000 just to be safe and see how that works out. Glad you told me that its bad to 'free rev' cuz I like to do that
but i guess ill have to stop[&o]

RE: Redline???
Guess I'm a little confused. The purpose of the redline indicator is to tell you where to shift....not where the automatic will shift at. If you're going to go to the track and manually shift the automatic at the place where the modulator regularly shifts it, then why manually shift it?
Point is... on an automatic street car, the redline indicator serves no purpose...
