Choke pull off (vacuum)? Please post a pix before removing it permanently!

Why are you taking it off??? "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

It's most likely a choke stove pipe, as falconfixer said. It's a metal heatpipe which runs heat from the intake manifold to the choke on the carburetor, thus opening it. That way, when you start your car and has been running for a while (say you run into the grocery store), the choke will still be open.

No, there's no vacuum through it. Don't remove it.

That's an EGR valve. It's part of a spacer plate that fits under the carburetor. You can remove the entire plate and plug the hole in the manifold with a lead fishing sinker or tap it and use a plug. We used to get a twobarrel Holley spacer to keep the carburetor up off the manifold. The vacuum lines can also be plugged. Those plates were a problem when they first started using them because they would corrode and create a huge vacuum leak.

hm, seems ive heard a couple things now. ive heard that EGR would acctually RAISE the temp, burning more, and removing it would lower air temp and giving more power.
scott, thanks for what im thinking is correct info. ive got plans for new intake/carb down the line anyway, so for now, yeah ill just leave it. at least now i know for sure its the EGR.

69FEcoupe; out of curiosity, how would one go about using a sinker to plug the hole? melt it in there with a torch?
