Wow. Sounds expensive. A friend of mine - the only guy that touches my car (I'm not much of a mechanic) - knows a guy who he'll get to rebuild the engine. Give or take, he gave me the estimate of 2,300. Suping up just about everything. Thing is..., I've gone to someone he's referenced before and the job became a huge hassle, took forever, and ended if half-assery. Needless to say, my trust in his referrals is shot.

So I just wanted to see what I was in for if I shopped around. And I won't be doing any of the work myself. Wish I could, but... No time, no experience, and no tools. [sm=smiley9.gif]

Hi

The problem is: Nobody can tell you a real price of rebuild an engine as soon as it´s not open.

Doesit need a rebuild crank? Must it be bored? Is the head ok?

I have had engines that are happy with a new sealing, others need sleeves and new head. Who ever said you a fixed price before open your engine iwould not trust. What is if the crank is in great shape and just need a polish? Will the price go down? Opposite if 2 Cylinders must be sleeved, will it goes up?

And let the Engine balance. Pay attention that each rod and piston will be weight-controlled. Just balance without that is half-work A balanced Inline6 can run so smooth you can stand a coin on it

you would be better off buying a 289 or a 302, that might sound expesive but you would be suprised, thats if you know what to look for.
