Default 408 fired 1st time...UPDATE

i had a bad night.

my Falcon GT went back to the engine builder for long overduefirst firing of the new 408.
everything looked good. tighten a couple of loose terminals and push the button.

fired straight away, then stopped with a large bang that shook the whole caras soon as the revs brought up the first time. WTF????

turns out that when I got the custom headers made, the exhaust guy had to pull the starter and in the processtook out the starter spacer that I had made to ensure the correct meshing of teeth from starter to ring gear.
MORON forgot to put it back. 2nd MORON (me) didnt check. [sm=icon_beat.gif]

The starter and flywheel jammed together. when the revs came up, starter didnt appreciate it so jammed and hard enough to make a mess.

results
grabbed a bearing - motor out again
busted 3 teeth clean off the flywheel - time for a chromoly one
starter - may or may not have survived. it was a brand new hi-torque one
damage bill around $2k Aus.[sm=boohoo.gif]

Hi

Oh what a ****.........

Never trust anybody check twice to get shure, check again to forget nothing......

I have had an rebuild engine from Caddilac for my 84. Build in, started it, runs 2 Mins then over...

The parts came out of the oilpan. The idiots lost a 13mm Bolt and it falls in a cylinder on the pistons..... Big mess, high cost and nobody pays.......

Drink a beer (or what you called so......sorry, I´m a German) and luck that the first gives you part of the money back

I bet that starter was making some juice!!

My dad had a car that this happened on once, starter stayed engaged for a two mile trip. When he got to work the starter virtually exploded. At some point during the trip the starter (acting as a generator) burnt the battery cable in half....

That must really suck,,,, [:@]

im so bummed at the moment[sm=headbang.gif]

i cant beleive the starter is so strong to not only stop the engine but push the crank far enough to the side to pinch a bearing like that. the smallest shaft is the starter...it should have bent first!!!!

the exhaust guy has just started his own business after working for bigger companies. he's a fellow racer and generally does good work at very reasonable prices. it was acase of trying to help him out andget a good deal at the same time.

i know he cant pay for the damage but i still feel like sending a couple of associates with lots of ink and questionable backgrounds around to pay him a visit...maybe a couple of slaps with a bat would ensure he doesnt do this to anyone else[sm=chairshot.gif][sm=shootshoot.gif]

Oh sh*t,,, I missed the part about the bearing getting screwed and the 2K part.....

It sucked before,,, now there are not words to express the suck...

I know you have a weak feeling in the pit of your stomach,,,, man I would be sick.

The only bright side of this story is that no one died....

I am sure that you can't even think about laughing today but you made me laugh, I have to say that I wasn't expecting that response but in retrospectI guess I should have....
