You should be able to use the existing balancer that is on the 302 as long as the 289 is a non-hipo version and has the 4 bolt balancer. The v belt pulley (unless you use a serpintine setup off the 302) should bolt up to the late model balancer with no problems. However, you will indeed ned to swap the timing cover to use your fuel pump and to have a place for the oil dipstick. Yes the oil pan will bolt on with no problems, but you will have to use the one off the 289 on your 302, or you could get a cool canton style T-Pan for it . Either way this will work. All you need to do is get a flexplate for an 87 mustang with the AOD automatic transmission. This should have the 10.5 in bolt pattern that your C4 auto needs. If not, you can get a machine shop t redrill the holes, or you can get a torque converter that wil fit the C4 and has the different bolt pttern. (Im pretty sure neither of these are requied though b/c the flxplate should fit the existing converter with no problems.) Just be sure you remove the pilot bearingin the back of the crankthat was needed for the manual trans input shaft so that you dont break the flywheel and/or front pump when you tighten everything down. This sounds like a lot, but it really isnt to bad. You just need the correct flxeplate (flywheel). Good luck!!!

If you plan on using the 289 pulleys you will need a new harmonic damper with the 3 bolt setup and 50 oz imbalance (not hard to find, Summit carries them, among others.Usually listed as drilled for both patterns). Or if you have them, you may want to use the pulley system for 87. Either way, shouldn't be too much of a hassle. (by the way ALL 289's had 3 bolt crank pulleys, I think they changed to 4 bolt on the small blocks in 70)
