Default Rebuilt 289

If anyone read my engine trouble thread I posted a while back you will know that my HiPO is no longer in existence. The 289 I had put in had to be bored out to a 302 because the piston walls were so scored. Is there anything I should know about this engine since it is bored and not stock?

You can't bore a 289 out to 302ci. You can bore it .030 over, which puts you at something like 293 iirc, but trying to bore it out enough to put the displacement at 302ci would push the bore right through the water jackets.

Assuming it's just bored .030 over, there's no reason it's not usable. You'll need matching overbore pistons, but that's not a big deal.

I haven't seen the old thread; what happened to the K code? Is there anything salvagable from the old engine? Those main caps are worth quite a bit of money.

The old K code was going to cost to much to replace so I sold it and with that money I am putting this new engine in and hopefully I will have enough left over for paint.

Thats alot. I'm not sure how far over it is getting bored I just know the mechanic who is doing it told me it would be close to a 302.

I don't really have a choice its either I get it bored .040 over or I don't have a mustang. So you really need to calm down.

I'm wondering what you got for the old K motor? You may regret selling that some day. They are not easy to come by and I assume to one you had matched the car.

Yes it did match the car and it was so hard for me to sell it but I needed the money in order to keep the car running it was either keep the motor and no car or no motor and have a car. I sold the whole thing to a guy in San Antonio who gave me 5000 for it and said when I wanted to put back in I could have it back.
