Drum to disc conversion

Drum to disc conversion
This topic might have been discussed before, but I'm new here. I have a 65 2+2 with stock drums in the front and rear. I want to replace the fronts with disc conversion kit but I'm wondering if the disc kit will work with 65 stock style steel wheels 14" X6 5 hole. Thanks for your help Mike

RE: Drum to disc conversion
This is the kit I used I have 14 X6 rims from a 96 ranger on there for now. the granda conversion is cheaper but I don't know about rim fit or much else about them. The ssbc kit I used was a fairly easy bolt on upgrade.

One thing to consider is what level of performance you want out of the car down the road. The only brakes that will fit inside small stock wheels have limited stopping power, which means they won't be worth a crap in a car with high horsepower levels.

i did the granada swap and they work with some 14" rims...sometimes you will need to grind the caliper down to make them fit though. i used to have 14" aluminum mag wheels and they fit without any modification.

did any 65-66's come with front disk?
if so, why not go to your local parts house and get the spindles, calipers, rotors, master cylinder, and an after market proportioning valve? and a booster if going power brakes. you'll be eating the applicable core charges is all.
I'm not sure if you can swap in 67 GT calipers and spindles, probably causes some geometry issues. But those calipers are 4 piston, 13" and OEM 15" style steels fit over them.

Dont mean to hijack, but here we go....For the MustangSteve's, Do the brakes have to be Cobra's. Cuz I have a totaled 95 GT in my back yard. I was eventually gonna swap the EFI 5.0 to my 65. But if I can use the brakes to get rid of my drums, that'd be the ****!!!

Stainless steel brakes makes a nice conversion kit for 65-66 mustangs that uses factory 4 piston calipers and stock drum brake spindles. Its a sweet setup & pretty pain less to install. They also offer with or with out power assist.Check Bigdmustangs.com for a deal
