Default Torque converter?

Is there a torque converter on a 66 standard 200 coupe? Is it in the tranny case? I don't even know what it looks like. Someone told me that could be the source of my rough idle problem in drive and reverse. Any help is appreciated.

Every automatic tranmission has a torque converter. it is in the bell housing right behind the engine. Bolt to the fly wheel that is attached to the crankshaft. How low does your idle RPM drop when you put it in gear?

200 six cylinders are known for rough idles.Tune it and take special care to look for and seal any vacuum leaks. Also the carburators (one berrels as they are) are nortoriously crappy.Rebuilding the carb may be in order.Make sure your dealing with a sound engine too.low compression or stuck or burned valves will also cause a rough idle under load.

And a failing torque converter usually 'slips' more on acceleration - not binding and loading the engine before the stall speed...
