Default Richmond's newer 5 spd

So, Richmond has made good transmissions for a while now. It seems they finally got off their duff and made a 5 speed with an actual overdrive that has some *****.

http://richmondgear.com/NEW5withOD.html

Not sure how long it's been out, their site says for almost a year, but I only just recently saw it advertised in Summit/Jegs. 600ft-lbs torque capacity, and it draws it's design from their NASCAR transmissions. About $1,100 MORE than a comparable Tremec, but Richmond makes better transmissions. You get what you pay for.

Another option for those looking to upgrade transmissions and willing to spend the money.

unless you are putting out major hp numbers then its not worth the extra $$

but heck, with the g-force kits now the tremecs can handle all power you can throw at them

the unkillable toploader is looking good to me too rmodel

over $3k for the richmond and assuming no changes to bell housing, clutch etc...that would cost me $6k Aus delivered here. I'd rather get a PPG dog box with an overdrive for that kind of money.

I have the Toploader in mine right now. The Richmond Super Street 5 is about $1,000-1,500 more than an equivalant Tremec. But, Richmond makes VERY good transmissions. Many people think they under rate them in terms of power, and they shift quite well also. All in all they're a better transmission than the Tremec is, but it comes with the "better" price as well. Richmond just makes excellent products. The 2 main trannies that are run in NASCAR are Jericos and Richmonds. Not saying the Tremec is bad btw, cuz they're good transmissions, the Richmond is just better. At least with Richmond you get a 100% made in America, high quality product, Tremecs are decent quality, but made in Mexico. So for those willing to pay the extra to give the money to an American business, they see the extra cost as worth it. Tremec also makes so many transmissions that they have economy of scale.

And the only reason I like this transmission(other than it's Richmond) is the gear ratios. I always thought the gear ratios on the 4+1 5 spds sucked. A 1:1 5th gear? Lame.

I got bored today and poked around Summit and discovered that Ford Racing sells the Cobra R version of the T5 for just shy of $2k with what I consider much better (closer) gearing and a massive power rating. Compared to the G-force kit with the optional pricey.73 5th (still wide), I think it's probably a better deal.

Most of the Temec based transmissions(T-5's included) are pretty good deals all the way around. They're hard to go wrong with. I have heard people complain about notchy shifting at higher rpm, but it seems a rather infrequent complaint.
