Default Parking Brake

So I'm putting new drums in while I have the rear end (8"- I still have the smaller rear end installed) out of the Mustang. Does the ebrake cable connect behind the drum, or is that just for tension adjustment?

I hope this makes sense. I'm attaching a pic of what I'm referring to.

Thanks

Yes, it will attach to a lever inside that is connected to the rearmost shoe. You adjust the brake at the transmission crossmember.

So I can disconnect at the part that I'm pointing to. Which will leave the internal cable, allowing me to connect my existing ebrake cable behind the drum.

No, sorry I misunderstood. The cable goes thru the backing plate and attaches to the rear shoe. You have to disassemble the brakes to get that cable out. Once disassembled, you push the little "fingers" in and that releases the cable.

You don't have to remove it to replace drums though. It doesn't even have to be removed to completely disassemble the brakes.

HTH!

Got it- so on the internal part, push in the little fingers and remove- It's severed, so I'm just going to remove it while I'm replacing the drums.

Thanks

Yep, that's it. It pulls out from the back of the backing plate, just to clarify. Clean up and repaint that backing plate while you're at it.
