Default 302 rebuilding

I have a broken down carbureted 302, and was thinking of sending it to the machine shop to get it renovated. Right now it is 40 over. Anybody know if it can be renovated one more time at 60 over?

I wouldn't. SBF's use a thin wall casting which can cause severe overheating issues if bored too much, especially with mild core shift which isn't uncommon either.. .040 is as much as I'd recommend going over, especially considering the vast number of 302/5.0 blocks out there. Go find yourself a roller block and start there. Some of the 80's 5.0 blocks used really low tension rings which means that they may not need to be rebored at all, just honed, plus you'll get a roller block out of the deal.

yeah you could get away with .060 but like mentioned above a 302 block is easy enough to find.... you should be able to score one thats standard bore cheap so you can bore it out to .020 or .030

Iam on a 2700 dollar budget. A crate engine would be nice though.

Whats the difference between a roller block and a regular 302 block aside from the roller cam?

the roller blocks have the provisions for holding down the roller lifters, and they also have a 1 piece rear main seal which is better than the 2 piece seals used in the earlier blocks.
