Default pics of new gas tank sending unit installation

im also in the process of updateing my fuel sending unit. previous owner had the original one in and modified it with a return line and also two wires for the intake fuel pump. however he did a poor job and it had a slow leak. plus the wiring looked unprofessional.

here is before

draining the tank, i went through 3 5gal gas cans, here i had to use a white bucket, also you can really see where he made the hole for the wires and extra tube. used some a/b puddy or jb weld around it, but still leaked.

this is the new unit in, still have to redo the electrical lines, and clean up the rust and repaint it, also you can see where i made a new hole and filled it with proper gas tank weld puddy.

Yeah that looks a hell of a lot better!!It looks like you could see where the gas was leaking on the 1st pic.You might want to put some liquid elec tape on the connectors(just a thought).Looks Good though!!

thanks, wait till i finish it up, will look alot better and cleaner. this was just a pic of the work in progress so far. also he had two different size fuel lines. one was way to big for the tube, and the clamp was really tight to squeeze it closed. im going to buy new lines that are correct size.

I don't remember having a return line on mine, what exactly does it help with?

Why would you put a new hole in the tank and not use the one in the sending unit? Wires dolook more original. I cannot beleive that or $25 the original owner just didnt change out the sending unit rather then rigging it for leaks.

As for a return line that should only be done if you have an electric fuel pump and that would be to release pressure going to the carb. I see no other reason for it either.

the car is fuel injected, so its needs the return line, and the P/O had an intank fuel pump. so i just redid the postive and negitive wires, and bought a correct sending unit that is specificaly made for fuel injected.
