Need advice to replace antenna on 65 Conv.
I broke my radio antenna on my 65 convertible. I bought a new antenna and I thought it would be an easy switch, but after looking at the existing antenna, it looks like I have to remove the entire passenger front fender just to get the old antenna off and install the new antenna and cable.
Any tips from the forum on the best method for replacing the antenna mounted on passenger side front fender on a 65 Mustang?
Appreicate any tips!

No you don't. If you take the old one apart you will see that you will be able to pull it right out from the top of the fender. You will see that there is a small bracket on the underside that the top screws into. Just look at the new antenna parts and you will see what I mean. The harder part is probably going to be fishing the end of the antenna wire into the car and plugging it into the radio.

This may help with the antenna cable.
Before you pull the antenna and cable out, tie a string onto the cable. Then pull out the antenna and the cable. You should have a string extending from the outside hole to the area under the dash. Un-tie the outer portion of the string and re-tie it to the new cable. Insert it along with the new antenna into the hole while pulling the string which is attached to the new cable. This should allow you to get a grip on the new cable under the dash.
I hope this is clear.

You should be able to unscrew it ,unplug the wire from the radio and pull it straight up and out of the fender, when you unplug the antenna wire from the radio tie a piece of string to it leaving about 4 ft of excess string so that when you pull the wire out of the fender you can tie the new wire to the string to help make it easier to get the wire back thru.On the new antenna you bought you should see how it comes apart. Its pretty easy with the stringtrick,Its a real bitch without it!Good Luck!!Hope this helps!![8D]

In this case it is because of mustangmatt63's attached picture. I just wish people would attach instead of imbedding or linking to photobucket, those of us with surf control at work can't see the latter pictures.

Thanks All.
Advice was very helpful.
I looked at the new one and see now it unscrews. The tip with the string is a good idea. I think the challenge will be getting the old antenna out as the bottom retaining plate needs to be tilted just right I believe to get it to clear the hole in the fender.
I will be trying this out this weekend.
Thanks again.
