Default Hello. I'm Rob. Got a question about a 66, and

it was suggested I ask over here in this forum. Better yet, I think I'll just link to the original question.

Any help is appreciated...........

Hello and welcome,I hate to be the one to say this, but the door panel is gonna have to come off. If I remember correctly, there is cotter pins holding some of the rods together and you have to get your hands in there to get it apart. Sorry! Maybe someone else will post with a better idea?

hmmm. Oh well. It actually looks like I could probably get all the stuff unattached, and get the latch mechanism out, but getting it reattached would be the trouble, without taking the inner panel off.

Thanks for the response

You may get lucky and remove and re-attach the bar with a screwdriver or maybe a pair of hemostats. Otherwise itmay be easier just to take it off. The panels are a pain to remove and replace. Also check the bushings in the hinges for wear (open the door and lift up on it). This could be adding to the problem by letting the door sag thus not hitting the striker correct. Goodluck.

thanks for the response. I do have some long hemostats (uhhh, from way back when you know), so that may be worth trying.

It's hitting the stricker. Just won't latch when it does so.

Nice ride, by the way.

Are you sure the door hinge bushings are good? If the door doesn't line up correctly it will not shut properly. If bushings are good, try the long hemos 1st if that doesn't work you will have to remove the inner panel. If you have to remove the panel check out all the rods and such inside the door as long as you are in there you may as well make sure everything is in good shape as you don't want to have to take it apart again!!Good luck!!
