Heater Box Removal

Heater Box Removal
I posted a question a few weeks back on how to remove the heater box from my 72 coupe. I'm a novice at this and the follow up questions may sound stupid [sm=insomnia.gif] Do I have to drain the radiator first? I know that I have disconnect the hoses at the fire wall. The car also has A/C, but the PO cut out the system to drop in the 351C. Thanks.

RE: Heater Box Removal
on my 66 i did not have to drain the radiator. I believe that if you do it when the engine is cold, the thermostat will not let the fluid in the heater, so you dont have to worry about anything that isnt in the heater already. You will need to be careful not to let that spill though.

RE: Heater Box Removal
You should drain your radiator, there is coolant in the heater core hoses that will keep pouring out.
you're probably going to have to remove the dash to be able to get the box out completely, i had to in my 69

RE: Heater Box Removal
i didnt i just unplugged the hoses at the firewall and put some light air pressure to the top side and pushed out the fluid, if i was you so you dont damage anything i will pull the console out, then center dash piece and make sure that you mark your cables from your heater controls to the one on the box, also pull the pass frnt seat out and roll back the carpet! have fun! i sure did

RE: Heater Box Removal
Thanks for all the replies. The entire dash is out. I've stripped out the interior to do rust repair. There is also a cowl leak that will have to be repaired. The leak rusted through the toe extension as well as the top of the torque box. I need to remove the heater box to be able to use the spot weld cutter.
