I was checking out the faq and wanted to do the throttle linkage DIY project. I easily found everything but the 1/4" x 28 rod - finding machine thread rodbecame a mission until I found an industrial placein south el monte that has anything and everything - industrial pipe and steel on rush and mission.

Anyhoot, on to the question - why are they using the rubber washers? I found some Moroso washers that look awesome for $6 and left the rubber/plastic piece in the rear since it is already 1/4" (I figured why bother with the reducer, it was a piece of metal hitting it anyway), putting on these washers w/rubber pieces takes away from the look and I don't see any reason for it, so why bother?

Any ideas, I'll post pics later tonight?

here is the thread i was referring to in the faq - it does look sweet and for the 25 or so advertised was way cool, since my car is a project car with my son it was another easy way to have a bit of fun with the achievement of having done it yourself

I just reviewed the ford muscle article a bit more and it looks like the rubber washers are used in lieu of the stepp washers. I am going to bail on the rubber washers in the front but keeping them in the rear (where I am keeping the stock plastic piece in place and just using the washers on both sides of this piece).

finally got the camera back from my daughter. I went with just using the Moroso washers in the front with the screw and nut; I used the washers with the rubber in the back and left the plastic piece in place. It is very tight and smooth, goes through the entire range very easily and without any force, the heim joints work great. The Moroso washers were $6, the bolts/washers nuts a couple bucks, the 1/4 x 28 rod a couple of bucks, heim joints $11, and the brake line I had left over from another project
