How much power can a built 8" handle.
I've got a 9" in a donor car also, but its going to be a pain to get it out, store it, move the donor car after its out, etc etc....
I'm planning on about 400 hp, will the 8" handle that if its well built?
Thanks

Probably go with 3.73 or similar, whatever is close and available. It will have a 5 speed.
My '71 Chvelle made 450hp, and my built 10 bolt little 7.8" (I think) held up. I can't believe it would be impossible to make a Ford 8" hold 400hp.

Strong enough to handle 400hp. Aftermarket parts in a stock Ford 8" housing. Sorry, maybe thats a local term. (built)

I'm running around 300+rwhp through an 8" with street tires. No problems. The only thing stock though are the axles, and with the Richmond Powertrax being pretty solid and made from a titanium alloy, it doesn't flex, which may have an impact on how precisely the axles stay where they're supposed to. Misalignment will kill things faster than power will. You flex metal and it'll break faster.

Depends 100% on your driving. The axles suck, and if they're replaced, the caps are the weakness. Dropping the clutch, spinning the tires, then letting them grab is mainly what breaks them. The shock of power is what kills them.

Thanks for the response everybody. So, the general concensus is that it will hold the power, as long as the parts are all upgraded, and its driven in a halfway sane manner?
For what its worth, the car will never see slicks, and usually be granny shifted. But realistically the motor will make 350-400hp.
