wimped out on the 408
I ordered my 408 kit last week and after thinking about it, I canceled the order. KInd of feel like I let my mustang down, but money was adding up quick, 200 for balancing 300 to put it together, 160 to clean and bore, thats not including none of the parts. SO in the end I quit my project, and will just send it to get rebuilt with the edelbrock kit for half the price. I think the stroker kit would have been way out of my reach with all the upgrades the suspension, tranny, and whatever else popped up that needed to be upgraded. I do feel relieved though since I am a college student, and if I would of released 5000on a car , I would have probablyregretted it in the future.

good decision well made
plenty of us woulda gone through with it and regretted it for the exact reasons you listed.
If youbuild the budget thing, you might still have enough left over to change rear gearing...that'll give you a big "bang for your buck" anyway. Good luck with it

Yep the money does add up quick!
For a reality check it is a good idea to look at the price of crate motors and apply this knowledge to building our own engines....
I shudder to say that by the time we do things right,a lot of strokers can be bought nearly as (or as)cheaply as they can be home built.
All of those "little things" add up in a hurry. I had to become an old man before I was willing to spend that kind of money on an engine...

Good choice. These cars can get expensive very quickly. I just added a $2800 blower on mine and by the time the might as well do this at the same time thing is done I will be in it about $6k. If I were to know it was going to turn into this in advance I wouldn't have done it. Then again I haven't driven it yet so maybe I would have.
You have lots of time to redo things in the future. Concentrate on college and when funds free up more in the future you will really be able to enjoy the money pit, I mean project.
