RE: engine in - won't start with key
1st, go to the FAQ section and download the wiring diagram for your car.
If it starts and runs by jumping the solonoid, then you are not energizing the solenoid from the igniton switch. Check the small push-on solonoid wire closet to the front of the car for 12 v when you hold the key to start. If you have voltage, the solonoid is bad. Replace it. If no voltage, check that the NSS is in park or neutral. The connector for the NSS is on the firewallabove the throttle rod. Unplug it and check for volage there with the key in the start position. if there it's the adjustment or a bad NSS. If still no vlotage go inside the car and check the ign switch for 12 v when start is selected. if not ther, replace the Ign Switch.

already had the diagrams, i just jumped it by bringing the pigtail and connecting it to itself to bypass the nss and all that crap. everything on the car is new, solenoid, starter.. everything. so i knew it wasn't that. but it starts right up with the key now so.. that's all i'm worried with. man it moves.

i had s similar problem and i was only able to start the car by the solinoid with the key in the ON position, not start. i took the ignition switch wires out tested them to see what was hot when i turned the key to the start and decided to switch the wires around to what was hot on start and it worked. now the car starts like it should. it took me and a friend of mine 3 hours to figure that out. it was the only thing we overlooked. we literally traced every single wireleading to the ignition. sucks but now its good. good luck
