Default I have a clutch question.

Hello

I'm new to the site and I have a 1968 Coupe with the 289 and the toploader 3-speed tranny......Oh....And I'm only 18.....I did a search but didn't find what I wanted......I'm looking to replace the clutch in my car and I can't seem to find anything....I'm most interested in a whole kit......

Also....I plan on changing out my 3-speed for a brand new 4-speed toploader this summer.....Will that require a larger clutch assembly?

And for anyone who want to take a look at some pictures of my car from when I got it to how it sits right now....http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y13...4/The%20Stang/

Thanks in advance for the help.

Welcome to the forums! I have found this site to be of much help as I am sure you will too! As for the clutch, if you are looking for a kit check out some of the Mustang parts dealers like Mustangs Unlimited... they sell the whole kit, throw-out bearing and all. If you have a stock 289 then you more than likely have a 10" clutch, just make sure you get the right size as anything over a 10 1/2" clutch won't fit your setup.

Yeah, the clutch is the same for 3 and 4sp transmissions. Napa sells brand new clutch kits, and you don't have to pay shipping for them

A lot of flywheels are drilled for both 10" and 10-1/2" clutches. If yours is, it wouldn't hurt to have it resurfaced and install a 10-1/2" clutch rather than the stock 10".

I like the Hays pressure plate and clutch. They have several options depending on how much power you are making. All you need other than that is a throughout and pilot bearing. Do a search on summit and you will find this pretty easy. I think Ford Motorsports makes the pilot bearing and the throughout bearing is also a Hays item.

Thanks for the help guys......I plan on only rebuilding my 289.....I don't expect to get anything more than 300 hp.....I think with that plan I would have to go for something more than a stock replacement clutch....I'll look into the Hays....

Thanks btw.. Just got a 4-speed toploader to replace the C4 and I knew the clutch and pressure plate would need to be replaced. I'll have to check to see if my flywheel is drilled for doth. If so I'll go with the 10.5" clutch. I didn't know some were drilled out for both.
